I walked into "Crush" having no idea what to expect, and my mind was blown as I encountered a sample of "When Doves Cry". Purple Rain ranks in my unofficial top ten albums of all time, to the degree that it may even be number one. This should have been so wrong. BEYOND WRONG.

Funny thing. I wanted to believe that the first time I listened to the song--I shouldn't like this, so I won't. But the pure "WTF" factor kept drawing me back in, and by the fourth time I was pumping my fist along and all skepticism was diminished.

Pigeon John embodies a less annoying version of will.i.am. His charm rests in his self-awareness of his loser-like tendencies, while will.i.am thinks he's the shit when he's quite the opposite. Like, he's so the opposite of the shit that he's constipation.

But I digress. Pigeon John's chorus of "I got no game, no game, no game at all" seems like an anthem for scrubs and chumps, but anyone who's ever had a crush can relate. You're at a party and the cutest motherfucker walks past you. They go chill with some friends, and you're sitting there sipping your drink, peeking back over and waiting for your moment to introduce yourself. You start thinking of crazy schemes to get your future boo's attention, but by the time you've worked out your diabolical plan... they're walking away hand-in-hand with someone else! No one else at the party is really doing it for you, so you start thinking you might as well, er, do it to yourself. Masturbate, I'm talking about masturbation. But no matter how much you wank it out, you'll never be able to wank out those thoughts of your crush. Pathetic, but c'est la vie. Pigeon John knows your pain. But only Pigeon John.

The internet appears to have taken a break from their collective, massive boner for sample-king Greg Gillis (Girl Talk). I never mentioned his latest album Feed The Animals (mostly because I figured you've already downloaded it) due to the fact that I feel that so many individuals have been working the A.D.D. mash-ups recently. Gillis has a very specific style that generally leans toward mixing classic rock with recent hip-hop hits, but others have taken the style to different levels by meshing indie with pop, indie with indie, pop with pop, and so forth. No disrespect to Gillis! I'm glad he managed to popularize this style, and his production is a lot sleeker, more inventive, and humorous than some of his biters. I'm just sayin' that there are other people doing what he does in a way that might appeal to other demographics, ya heard?

One of those people is Freekstyler, who recently sent me a new song called "Maximum Capacity". The new jam features elements of 50 Cent with Justin Timberlake & Timbaland, Aaliyah, Alice Deejay, Chris Brown & T-Pain, Diddy & Keyshia Cole, E-40, Enur & Natasja, Guns N' Roses, Huey, Larry Tee & Princess Superstar, R. Kelly, Technotronic, Tweet, and Usher. I'm particularly fond of the moment when Huey's "Pop, Lock & Drop It" has a brief fling with "Sweet Child O' Mine" and then decides that it'd rather make love in a club. I look forward to hearing more from Mr. Freekstyler, and you'll be hearing more about him on this blog whether you like it or not.

Okay, okay. I guess Bushwick isn't really outer space, but if you're looking for something to do in the NYC area tonight...you should check out Big Bang TV, The Rowboats, The Creature DJs, and DJ Mangoose. They'll be venturing on a mission to move "your hearts, minds, and (occasionally your) butts" at Don Pedro (map it) @ 8PM tonight. $3 beers will be provided ALL NIGHT LONG.

I can attest that my heart, mind, and butt was moved quite often when I last saw Big Bang TV at Europa. As I looked around, I noticed many feet that were moved to tap, many heads were moved to nod. I even noticed Matt's "I Fucked Jack White" t-shirt. You know? Because he was wearing it when he played. You too can notice things like this. But not until you go to this show tonight. Plus, if you pretend hard enough...maybe Bushwick will feel like outer space, no?

KILL TO WIN is the brainchild of two different-colored brothers.

They are from Fre$hlando, FL, which is like Orlando but...uh, fresher. Duh. Their mash-ups and blends range from Peaches vs. Young Dro to Spank Rock vs. Mylo to Chromeo vs. The Pack, and there's certainly nothing wrong with these, but I'm much more impressed by their original production "Bear Gryllz". I am totally doing robo-gyrating dinosaur dances to it as I type. Well, technically I just did a robo-gyrating dinosaur dance before I typed this. In any case, it's that good. Dinosaur good. Why are they not producing for some up-and-coming Florida dance musician or rapper? Or are they? They should be.

Also, "New Spells" is not a track to miss, featuring a sample of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell On You". Because you're miiiiine. Okay, so you're totally not, and I don't even want you to be (no offense, yuck). But these MP3s can be yours, and that's what matters.

BALD EAGLE, born Chris Baronner, may not have made it in time for the Yo Majesty remix competition, but his new "reheat" of Yo Majesty and Does It Offend You, Yeah? is just in time for their appearance in The New Yorker.

Baronner just released his first mixtape, The Wonderful World of Bald Eagle & Friends - Live In The Fuck Hut # 1, which has been gaining some popularity here on the internets. The mixtape features tunes performed or mixed by Cansei de Ser Sexy, The Rapture, Switch, Diplo, Basement Jaxx, Le Tigre, New Young Pony Club, The Bird and The Bee, Peaches, Flosstradamus, and many more. It also includes Baronner's own delicious blend of Spektrum and Hollywood Holt and a one-second long track by his new DJ/production project When The Eagle Met the Wolf with Mister Wolf.

"We Are Clubstars" wasn't ready in time for the mixtape, but now it's ready for your ears and I'm pretty sure those ears will be liking this. MIKE B is a DJ, and he might be the one that saved your life last night. No? Not right? Well, it's a fact that he is the man behind "Italian Pop Lock", which I'm currently bumping as I type.

"Italian Pop Lock" brings together the delightful anthem "Pop Lock and Drop It" by Baby Huey (see video) and Black Strobe's "Italian Fireflies". I honestly don't know the latter song, and I probably wouldn't like this as much if I did.

In fact, I initially thought the instrumental of "Italian Fireflies" was annoying, but when I thought about it...it's no more annoying than the original instrumental of "Pop Lock and Drop It" (or the entire song for that matter). For some reason, it seems like these songs were meant to be together...and that's the only way I'll take my mash-ups and blendinis. Maybe the vocals and instrumental are annoying, but they're annoying together. Ain't that some cute shit?

Now we just need some girls to dance with us in empty pools. DO NOT RUN. Running is not acceptable, but I'm sure the lifeguards won't mind if you toot that thang up.
