Oddly enough, the very artist featured one post below this recommended Per Se. In a gchat conversation he stated, "People seem to have trouble writing good songs lately, which is different from catchy...Let's bring good back." And so here is my effort to do just that-- bring good back.

This goodness comes in the form of scrumptious folky indie with a female vocalist (and occasionally an accordion). My immediate instinct was to compare Per Se vocalist Anne Adams to Basia Bulat, so I guess that means she's also similar to Feist. But unlike both of these artists, she isn't Canadian. And she wears a pair of wings when performing. And she doesn't have an album out. Yet.

But lack of an album won't stop you from enjoying this, eh? If you're in the Portland area, take a trip to one of the shows listed on Per Se's space. It's sure to be an experience, to the degree that one showgoer gushes that, "Per Se happens and something magical enchant the room...you will cry even if you do not feel like it...maybe you will notice you have entered a gingerbread house and it is snowing sparkly snowflake ornaments and oranges are peeled like puzzle pieces..."

Those of us not fortunate enough to experience visions of puzzle-piece orange peels can still have the opportunity of enjoying Per Se from the comfort of our homes. Five songs are available for download on the official site, and it shouldn't be too long until we hear a full-length!

EDIT: Okay, okay...not quite a "remix" so much as adding a rap towards the end. Pardon my lazy ass blogging. I come from the era when Missy Elliott adding a rap to something was considered a "remix". However, peeps in the comments are right-- Boys Noize should be given credit for this remix.

summer album preview: impeach my bush.

PEACHES has taught you well. But seriously...are all you motherfuckers ready for the Fatherfucker? No? Well, maybe you're ready for Impeach My Bush, the third album by the queen of obscene, sucky-sucking, genderfucking electroclash.

Impeach My Bush finds Peaches out of her element in...an actual studio. But have no fear! The vocals have been treated in such a way to make them sound like they were recorded in a small, shitty room. There's still that gritty Peaches sound, but with a touch of smoothness. And she hasn't lost her edge either. With songs like "Slippery Dick", "Tent in Your Pants", and "Fuck or Kill", you know this is the same lady who once urged you to fuck the pain away. How can you not love an album that contains the lyric, "I'd rather fuck who I want than kill who I have to"?

Strangely, the biggest surprise of the album is a a special guest appearance by Ms. Leslie Feist, Peaches' former roommate. WHAT??? As a friend pointed out, "That's like Al Gore and Tommy Lee Jones but less musical". The duo collaborate on the song "Downtown", an incredibly mellow song for Ms. Nisker. I'm not going to lie...the song is almost sexy enough that even I'd let Peaches show me "her thing".
