Ahoy maties, it's been a while! I guess I was on a short hiatus. Some would call it a vacation. Well, now I am ready to emerge from hibernation with the help of a lovely French electro group known as ANORAAK. I mentioned previously that I've been dying to hear their contribution to Buffetlibre's REWIND '80s cover/remix project, and it's finally arrived in the form of a cover of The Romantics tune "Talking In Your Sleep". The original recording was released before I was even born. Despite being the highest charting single by The Romantics and getting major airplay on MTV, modern pop culture has managed to provide "What I Like About You" with permanent placement in my brain. ::shrug:: I'm kind of glad they decided to cover a song that I don't know well. There's a possibility that this may piss off someone who is fond of the original, but if you love ANORAAK as much as I do...there shouldn't be any issues. "Talking In Your Sleep" is also the name of a recent episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation, in which Paige totally thinks she caught the HIV. Just when I thought that show was going to the shih tzus, they finally went there, you know? This ANORAAK cover goes there too, and by "there" I mean a totally awesome place where there's no HIV or Paige Michalchuck.

Anoraak's dreamy electro-tune "the wizzard" was featured here back in September. Since then, I've expressed my excitement about their inclusion on the Buffetlibre REWIND project. You can imagine that it was an extra treat to get a Fear of Tigers remix of "Nightdrive With You" delivered to my inbox. The remix doesn't veer too far off from the original yet gives it an extra kick that makes it ready for the dance-floor.

Two questions remain:

1. Anoraak, can you drop a full-length album, like...NOW?
2. Fear of Tigers, can you remix...my LIFE?

I've been seeing that Database edit of George Benson's "Turn Your Love Around" quite a bit on the blogs. While I'm excited about REWIND, Buffetlibre's '80s cover and remix project, I didn't really get into this contribution. So why, you ask, am I excited about this project? Three words, two groups: Anoraak, Purple Crush.

I wrote about Anoraak a while back, praising their laid-back electro tune "The Wizzard". Having heard quite a bit more from them since then, I've fallen deeper in love. Whether they're doing a remix or cover, I'm sure it'll have me dancing in my deskchair (if not, on it).

Purple Crush? Well Isla just embodies the 1980s with her flawless dance moves and Kate Bush-covering self. And did I mention her dance moves? Serious. Lee. I was in awe of her performance at the March 20th Palms Out Sounds party (@ Luna Lounge, Brooklyn). She's a one-woman '80s party!

anoraak: the wizzard.

ANORAAK's "the wizzard" makes me want to do interpretative dances in my cubicle.

There's something so appealing about this song that I can't quite put my finger (or even my pinky toe) on. It's a chameleon song. No matter what mood I'm in, the song adjusts to it. It fits in a playlist flawlessly, whether next to Architecture in Helsinki or T-Pain.

Most importantly, it's a very calm song. There are times when I get to work after napping on the subway and think, "Holy shit. This Go! Team song is making me anxious as shit. I can't handle that biznass."* I don't have that problem with "the wizzard". It drags me out of sleep with its swirling, hypnotic electronic instrumentals and smooth, almost slurred vocals. It's wake-up side-effect rivals that of coffee, except this song is totally not a diuretic. At least I don't think it is...

At the same time, this song could be my lullaby, singing me to sleep in my tiny French electronica cradle. Awww.

minitel rose: remixes.

MINITEL ROSE are an electro-pop dance trio from France. They are on VALERIE Records. If you haven't heard of this label, it's okay. I hadn't either until a week or two ago after someone recommended Sexy Sushi to me.

If things go the direction I suspect and hope for, you'll be hearing a lot more from Minitel Rose and their label-mates. Just last Thursday, Discodust had a post up about fellow VALERIE-folk COLLEGE and ANORAAK. It was at this point that I realized I needed to get my ass out of my blog-depression and do a post about some remixes that Minitel Rose did.

Yes, Minitel Rose have their own very awesome tunes...but I'm not in enough of a go-getter mood to ask them for mp3s. Also, these remixes are SO good. Check it.
