I had pledged that I wouldn't do anymore MGMT-related posts for a very long time, but I couldn't resist after getting the following e-mail from a fellow alum of Wesleyan University...

"do you have a copy of "Crumz" by MGMT? Do you remember it? It was the Aaliyah song Try Again but they rapped about Ernie and Bert and eating crackers and getting crumbs in their lap? I REALLY WANT THAT SONG."

Initially, I assumed this person was punking me, as this song just sounded too good to be real. With a little research (aka googling "MGMT Crumz"), I was led to the comments section of a post on ONTD, which included several older songs I posted here as well as two others that I neglected to share with you. By reading the comments of this post, we receive insider-information that Andrew VanWyngarden's iTunes library was called "kitten hatchery". My favorite comment comes from livejournal user bunnykittycoat--"He may be a total tryhard but damn that boy is fine." Don't be surprised if I make a trend out of calling people "total tryhards".

Die-hard MGMT fans seem to have acquired this already, but you die-soft MGMT fans may want to hear this too. I imagine that it's the type of song they'd do if they made an appearance on Yo Gabba Gabba. I can't wait for the Justice remix of "C.R.U.M.Z. On My Lap".

I never remember my dreams, but this morning I had a distinct memory of one of them. I was in some unidentifiable city, though some sort of combination of New York and London. I believe I was on a tour of some beautiful church. It was boring, so I spot Rick Ross and Trina. I decide that it'd be a good idea to hang out with them, and they're totally down. We're walking through the streets of New-London-York when a former acquaintance of mine starts shouting from miles away that she wants us to come pose in a picture with her. Rick Ross and Trina aren't having it. I start a mental dialogue with myself about whether I should ask Rick Ross if I could be on his next album, but then I get worried that he saw my review of Trilla and knows that I think he's a bad rapper. Then the other part of me says to myself, "Um, if he's such a bad rapper...why don't I have a deal with Def Jam and sell hundreds of thousands of albums?" This dilemma is never solved, and the dream ends with Rick Ross wanting to go into a health-food store and Trina refusing. I'd like to think that her refusal was something along the lines of "Uh uh, you know my traffic-stopping ass can't fit through that door!", but she didn't specify. I'm also sure that Shervin was in this dream at some point, possibly trying to continually convince me that Ashlee Simpson's "Outta My Head" is actually a good song (not really, but I swear he made a cameo appearance).

Why am I telling you all this? It's quite simple. As I was recounting this dream via e-mail, I was listening to a mash-up of Santogold and Justice by Immuzikation. At approximately 2:37, vocals from Trina's "Told Yall" are introduced into the mix. This was not indicated in the e-mail that was sent out by Immuzikation. FREAKY. Not to mention that Santi White was one of the writers for "Outta My Head". Not to mention that "L.E.S. Artistes" has been stuck in my head all week. Not to mention that I was JUST thinking about how Justice is completely overrated.

Coincidence? I think not. Immuzikation iz n mi subkonschnz, fukn wit mi brn!

ced hughes: and the technicolor sound wave

CED HUGHES made a mixtape, and it's pretty much better than anything you're going to hear from 50 Cent or Kanye West.

I recognize that this is a heavy claim to make, and I will say at the very least...this mixtape is better than Kanye's. Seriously. Can we raise our standards music bloggers? I mean, dude defecates all over Peter Bjorn & John and bitches are flipping their shit over it? I deleted that mp3 seconds after you told me how awesome it was.

Ced takes a variety of hype-worthy artists including (but not limited to) Amy Winehouse, Daft Punk, Justice, Mark Ronson, Interpol, Sa-Ra, and Stereolab and raps over their songs. And the result is often mind-blowingly great. These songs don't seem to be chosen for their hype-factor, so much as the sheer appreciation of the other artists' music. Dispersed throughout the mixtape we have a few of Ced's original songs, which provide evidence that he doesn't only sound good on other people's music...and talent beyond his rapping. Three of these songs are original productions by Ced himself.

But don't let me convince you that he needs talent beyond his skills on the mic. Upon first listen to this mixtape, I immediately drew comparisons to Lupe Fiasco, 7L & Esoteric, Pigeon John, Black Thought of The Roots, Common, etc. Ced is a talented emcee. He's not just some guy who thought it'd be cute to rap over "We Are Your Friends".

He's also not 50 Cent. Holy crap, he's such a shitty rapper. I once read on some obnoxious kid's space that "Fiddy rap like he got a dick in his mouth". Originally I found this extremely offensive and homophobic, but that kid may have been on to something...

If you feel compelled to go out this September 11th and purchase Curtis or Graduation...do yourself a favor. Stay home. Just download Ced and the Technicolor Sound Wave.*

frikstailers: foonkie boogie.

FRIKSTAILERS just friended me on the space as I was about to go to bed defeated that I had no good songs to blog about.

Hailing from Argentina, Rafael Caivano (Ralf) & Lisandro Sona (Sandro Lee) are Frikstailers. They are on the label Pino Rec, which seeks "to agglutinate, to promote and to give space of development to different emergent projects from heterogenous Latin American music electronic fusion as far as style and line, but equal as far as initiative and musical sonorous investigation." Essentially this means that their artists make incredible electro-experimental tunes. Well, it doesn't actually mean that. But it's what they do.

On their blog, Frikstailers writes about their song "Foonkie Boogie"...

"it's our hit at the moment, everybody dance with this in our parties, it's made with voices of justin, britney , madonna and lot's of other guys, each and every sound was sampled of some pop tunes we found in mainstream records."

Unlike Girl Talk's pop-music creations, this is a bit more subtle. When I say subtle, I mean that you'd have a very difficult time picking out each pop element. "Suparitmo" seems to take a similar approach to "Foonkie Boogie", but I'm only saying that because I can kind of hear Justin Timberlake in there somewhere.

The boys of Frikstailers have also completed remixes of Justice and Garbage. Admittedly, the Justice remix isn't life-changing. However, the "Stupid Girl" remix strips away the poppiness of the original, taking Shirley Manson's vocals to a much darker place. In a good way.
