too short: gangsters & strippers.

dl: TOO SHORT f/ MURDA MOB & THE PACK - Sugar Daddy (YSI)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I recently was convinced to purchase a month of membership on emusic, because a digi-friend suggested an album that appeared to only be available through their site. The promotion involved 50 free downloads. Somehow, I had no idea what to do with all of them. I found it incredibly difficult to discover new music (despite the selection being otherwise outstanding), so I asked my digi-friend for recommendations. And then I just downloaded Too Short.

It took a while, but I found a compilation CD from 2006 entitled Gangsters & Strippers, featuring songs by Too Short, The Pack, Murda Mob, Shannell, The Up All Nite Crew, and others. It's exactly what you'd expect from the title or anything in Too Short's discography. As much as I know that I shouldn't like music that is this blatantly degrading to women, I just can't help it. In my defense, I will say that one of the songs incorporates the lyric "You can do anything if you got dreams" and discusses the strippers using their well-earned trick-turning cash to pay college tuition and become lawyers and doctors. Empowering!

too $hort: this my one.

d/l: TOO $HORT f/ E-40 - This My One (YSI)
---------------------------------------------------------------
I'll be honest. I had a soft spot for E-40 ever since he repped the skull & keys on the cover of My Ghetto Report Card. I'm not familiar with even a fraction of his discography, so I probably shouldn't be saying this-- but I find his style of rapping to be entirely irritating. No disrespect to the Bay. I just might not be hyphy enough, you know?

Similarly, it's been difficult for me to listen to new Too $hort songs without comparing them to the good ol' days. You know...when he talked more about his penis. Oh, but did you know that he was one of the only rappers in the industry to collaborate with The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, Mac Dre, Ol' Dirty Bastard, and Eazy-E before they died? I didn't. Thanks wikipedia!

BLOGGER NOTE: This time in color! To be honest, I didn't have much to say about this song.
