the dream: falsetto.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Now usually I don't do this but uh...I just have a lot of feelings about this music video. But don't worry. I have some entirely unrelated songs for you too!

You're probably wrong if you think you have no idea who The Dream is. He's yet to make himself a household name, but his words are no stranger to your ears. What the hell am I talking about? Well...as his press release won't let us forget, he is the man who penned two summer hits--- Rihanna's "Umbrella" and J. Holiday's "Bed". And you must be living under a rock if you haven't heard "Umbrella", which is a contender for Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the 50th Annual GRAMMY awards. But that's off topic.

Let's talk about "Falsetto", the follow-up to The Dream's debut top 40 single "Shawty is a Ten". In this song, he channels the same energy of "Bed". Babies will be made to this song. Eighth graders will grind slowly to it. White people will bone to it ironically. Hips will gyrate to it while driving (which is totally dangerous, not that I'd know). With the chorus "She like 'ooh, ooh, ooh baby, ah, ah, ah' in her falsetto" our Grammy-nominated songwriter neglects to realize that women are generally not considered to have a falsetto. Did The Dream possibly overlook this fact? Is this an ode to a transexual or transgender individual? Is "Falsetto" the new "Lola"? The new "Long Tall Sally"? Could The Dream be the new Little Richard? I'm just askin'! Could he be?

The other line that bothers me in this song comes towards the end-- "She said it feels like her very first time". Was your first time as awkward as mine? Because that just doesn't sound like a compliment.

d/l: J. HOLIDAY - Bed (90 Ninety remix) (YSI)
bonus track: CAST OF RENT - Seasons of Love (90 Ninety remix) (YSI)

BLOGGER NOTE: I know, I know. Most embarrassing bonus track ever...but who can resist the hilarity of Broadway vs. Juelz Santana? Also, I totally sang that song in 8th grade gifted and talented choir.
